Mr. Teulings, notes that it is gratifying that athletes who are part of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge which is usually hosted at the multi-sport facility are showing motivating sporting skills which he never expected to see stating that there is impressive talent in the young athletes at the OYDC who have continued to be nurtured through the Teulings league Games.

He encouraged the athletes in the different sports disciplines to make use of the league games to shape their sports career and bring out positive results to put Zambia on the map of countries with top gold medalist athletes.

Teulings, arrived in Zambia on Thursday 11th May 2017 accompanied by his wife Pauline Krayenhoff, and on Saturday 13th May, 2017 the duo toured the Teulings Youth Sports monthly competitions which were held at the centre.

And his wife Krayenhoff, said the number of girl representation in different sports disciplines is interesting adding that the joy on their faces shows an enormous opportunity to develop their skills.

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge has four (4) sports disciplines hockey, basketball, tennis and beach volley. However, individual athletes from other sports codes that have been identified to have exceptional talent, have been drafted in the “Teulings Academy Support or Sponsorship programme” where they are supported with among others accommodation and meals in camp, medicals, transport and school support.

Mr. Coen Teulings, the Chairman of the Merifini Capital in Belgium last visited the OYDC in 2014.

Meanwhile, Centre Director Clement Chileshe, says it is through the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge that the OYDC produced elite athletes who have represented the country at international level of which some are playing for senior national teams.

He disclosed that the Teulings leagues have been successfully hosted at the Centre for the last six years. He cited Prosper Chiluya (football), Loveness Mudenda (Hockey), Sydney Siame (Athletics), Daniel Mbewe (Athletics), Choolwe Hamalambo (Table tennis) and Hazembe Chindamba (Athletics) as some of the athletes who have greatly benefited from the Teulings Academy sponsorship.

And Loveness Mudenda and Hazemba Chindamba testified of benefiting from the Teulings academy respectively.

Mudenda, said it was through the Teulings Youth sports challenge that her hockey team qualified to participate in the 2014 winter Olympics Games in Nanjing China were her team was ranked 8th in the world.

And Hazemba, said the Teulings sponsorship is worth emulating as it has continued to help many but underprivileged athletes in the country.
Tennis, Beach volleyball, Hockey, and Basketball are the games that took place at the weekend.

The Teulings project has helped positively change people’s lives and hugely contributed to the formation of youth leagues that has given a lot of youths the opportunity to participate in organised and competitive sport.
