First lady Esther Lungu officiates at 2017 Special Olympics “Unified Sports Day”

Hundreds of youths on Saturday morning took part in the Special Olympics Zambia “Unified Sports Day” activities which took place at the Olympic Youth Development Centre.

The first lady of the republic of Zambia Esther Lungu, who was recently appointed as the Special Olympics “50th Anniversary Ambassador” for Africa region was the guest of honour and participated in various activities.

The first lady was happy to see a huge number of children with and without “intellectual disabilities” coming to the #OYDC to be part of the unified football, boccie, relay, health checks and fun and movements games.

She also took the time to donate assorted food stuffs and sports kit worth over K150,000 through the Esther Lungu foundation to children who are part of the Special Olympics Zambia.

Some donated stuff include; mealie meal, cooking oil, balls, and jerseys.

Others who were present at the event include representatives from Unicef Zambia, Save the Children, Fairly Bottling, Lions, American U.S. Embassy Zambia, Zambian Breweries, Sport in Action, MultiChoice, Sport in Action,NOWSPAR Women In SportShoprite Zambia, Colgate Palmolive, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development, Red Cross, Dental School and the media.
