Teulings Youth Sports League Promotes Menstrual and Environmental Hygiene Among Young Athletes

Young netball players listening keenly to the facilitator’s talk on menstrual hygiene.

The Teulings Youth Sports League, hosted at OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre, continued its tradition of going beyond the playing fields by combining sport with important life skills education. Before the weekend’s games in netball, taekwondo, rugby, and judo, young athletes gathered for an interactive session on menstrual hygiene and environmental care.

During the talk, facilitators emphasized the importance of menstrual health awareness, encouraging young girls to break the silence around menstruation and to manage it with confidence and dignity. Boys were also engaged in the discussion to build understanding and promote a culture of support and respect.

On environmental hygiene, athletes were reminded that sports venues and communities thrive when everyone plays a part in keeping them clean. Lessons on proper waste disposal, recycling, and the importance of protecting green spaces were shared.

By blending sport with social education, the Teulings Youth Sports League continues to empower Zambia’s future leaders both on and off the field, ensuring that athletes not only excel in competition but also carry forward values of health, respect, and responsibility.
