Zambia Judo Team Wins Triple Bronze at the African Open Judo Championships

The Zambia Judo National Team has proudly secured three bronze medals on Day 1 of the African Judo Open 2025 taking place in Pretoria, South Africa.
Rising star Rita Kabinda led the medal haul with a solid performance in the women’s -63kg category, defeating South Africa’s Malherbe Tegan to earn a bronze medal.

In the men’s division, Simon Zulu fought his way to the podium in the -66kg category, while Steven Mung’andu added a third bronze for Zambia in the -73kg category after a series of well-fought matches.

Speaking after the bouts, delegation leader Mr Henly Mfula congratulated the athletes on their achievements and praised their discipline and dedication.
“These bronze medals are a reflection of the hard work the athletes and coaching staff have put in. We are proud of their performance, and we remain hopeful for even greater results in future competitions,” said Mr. Mfula.
The competition continues tomorrow, June 27 and Team Zambia remains determined to add to their medal tally.
