Zambia U-21 Hockey Teams Intensifies Preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations at OYDC Zambia.

The Zambia women’s Under-21 national hockey team has intensified its preparations for the upcoming Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, which will also serve as a qualifier for the FIH Hockey Junior World Cup 2025. Only the top three teams from the tournament will secure a place on the global stage, and with that goal in mind, the Zambian squad is working tirelessly to secure a strong finish.
The tournament will take place in Windhoek, Namibia, from April 18th to 25th, 2025. Zambia will be represented by both the men’s and women’s Under-21 national teams.
Delphister Miyato, a key striker for the team, expressed her confidence in the squad’s readiness. “We’re more than ready. Everyone is focused, and we’re training hard because we know what’s at stake. A top three finish takes us to the World Cup, and we believe we can make it.” she said.

Head coach Victor Kumwenda echoed Miyato’s remarks, stressing the importance of financial support to ensure the team’s timely arrival in Namibia. “This team has the potential to compete with the best in Africa,” he said. “But we need support. Getting there early will give us time to adapt and fine-tune our strategies. We are ready for the tournament; now it’s about making sure we’re in the best position to succeed.”
Zambia is scheduled to face Zimbabwe in their opening group match, followed by a decisive fixture against Kenya. Both matches are expected to be competitive, with Zambia aiming to progress to the knockout stages and secure a top three finish to book their ticket to the World Cup.

Once again, OYDC Zambia has proven to be a cornerstone for sports development in the country, offering a high-performance training environment for national teams preparing for international competitions.
