OYDC Launches 2018-2022 Strategic Plan

The Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) on Tuesday 23rd July, 2018 launched the 2018-2022 “Strategic Plan” which will be used as a catalyst to uplift the centre’s outlook and operation.

Launching the strategic plan, Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Moses Mawere MP, in a speech read on his behalf by Director of Sport in the ministry Mrs. Bessy Chelemu, commended the OYDC “Sport Development Trust” with guidance from the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) for under taking the initiative of establishing the four year strategic plan.

The minister noted that he was aware the strategic plan was developed by qualified consultants in collaboration with different stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of activities for key beneficiaries that include athletes and national federations.

He added that the strategic plan must go beyond delivery of sport programmes as he emphasized that management and key stakeholders must ensure the new plan raises the profile of the Centre through Good Governance, prudent Financial management, and a robust Business development plan to ensure financial security and Sustainability of the Centre and good Facility management as well as Organizational sustainability.

Speaking earlier Centre Director Dr. Fredrick Chitangala, said the launched strategic plan will help the OYDC become a self-sustaining institution once the combined efforts of stakeholders and the Centre are realized.

Dr. Chitangala, disclosed that during this transition period the Centre will still need support from the government through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development, adding that OYDC remains an ideal host to international sporting events and has already greatly contributed to the raising of Zambia’s profile internationally and also the local populace’s appreciating the culture of sport.

In attendance during the launch of the strategic plan was OYDC Board member David Thompson, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development (MYSCD), Podium Performance Programme Coordinator Sombwa Musunsa, Zambia Swimming Union (ZASU) Vice President Adewale Grillo, Zambia Basketball Federation Technical Director Ndenge N’guni, Zambia Police Child Protection Unit and representatives of different stakeholders and OYDC staff.
