Teulings Youth Sports Challenge Showcases Rising Talent Across Multiple Sports.

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge continued to provide a platform for Zambia’s young sporting talent over the weekend as athletes competed in Rugby, Basketball, Table Tennis and Judo at the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre.

The action-packed programme attracted hundreds of young athletes in another successful round of competition aimed at nurturing the country’s future champions.

Rugby produced several entertaining fixtures, with teams battling fiercely throughout the day. Barbarians edged OYDC Rugby Club 24-22 in one of the most exciting matches, while Mandevu defeated Chazanga 25-15 before overcoming Zanimourne 17-12. OYDC Rugby Club bounced back strongly with a convincing 30-12 victory over Zanimourne and later defeated Chazanga 35-26. Barbarians also concluded their campaign with an impressive 26-15 win over Chazanga.

On the basketball court, young players impressed across the Boys, Girls and Under-13 categories. In the boys’ division, Breath of Heaven narrowly defeated SIA 7-5, while Matero Magic overcame OYDC 7-5 before recording a dominant 10-4 victory over OlympAfrica. OYDC secured a hard-fought 7-6 win over Breath of Heaven, and OlympAfrica edged SIA 4-3 in another closely contested encounter.

The girls’ competition was equally competitive. Breath of Heaven claimed a narrow 2-1 victory over OYDC, while OlympAfrica defeated SIA 5-2 before overcoming Breath of Heaven 4-3 in another thrilling match. OYDC also registered an impressive 7-4 victory against SIA.

In the Under-13 category, SIA defeated OYDC 2-1 before overcoming OlympAfrica 3-1. Matero Magic recorded a convincing 10-3 win over OYDC, while OlympAfrica wrapped up the day’s fixtures with a 4-2 victory against Matero Magic.

Table Tennis also formed part of the week’s programme, giving young athletes another opportunity to sharpen their skills and gain valuable competitive experience under the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge.

The weekend’s activities concluded with the Musa Biscuits National Judo League and Teulings Youth Sports Challenge, where an impressive 218 judokas from eight clubs competed across 45 weight categories at the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre.
The high-quality competition once again highlighted the steady growth of judo in Zambia as athletes showcased outstanding technical ability, discipline and determination.

Green Buffaloes emerged as the overall winners after accumulating 79 points, followed by Green Eagles with 44 points. Nkwazi and OYDC’s Ippon both finished on 17 points, while Red Arrows collected 16 points. Central Sports finished with four points, and Shalom rounded off the standings with three points.

The latest round of competition once again demonstrated the impact of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge in promoting youth participation in sport by providing regular competitive opportunities across multiple sporting disciplines. Through the initiative, young athletes continue to develop their skills, build confidence and prepare for higher levels of competition, reinforcing OYDC Zambia’s commitment to developing the next generation of sporting talent.
