Teulings Youth Sports Challenge Produces Gold Again as Sylvia Nawila Shines at Region 5 Youth Games

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge continues to prove its impact on youth talent development as Sylvia Nawila, one of its standout athletes, delivered a golden performance for Zambia in judo at the ongoing Region 5 Youth Games.

Competing in the -57kg female category, Nawila showcased grit and determination as she edged out Angola’s Sebasiano Manuella Bento in a closely contested final to clinch Zambia’s first gold medal in the judo competition.

Nawila, a regular participant in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge at OYDC Zambia, credited the platform for playing a major role in her growth and preparation.

“This win is not just for me but for my teammates as well. We worked so hard for this medal, and it has paid off. The fights were really tough, but we made it. I also want to thank Teulings for giving us young judokas the opportunity to compete. It has pushed us and prepared us for this level. I encourage other young athletes in the league to keep working hard, your time will come.” she said.

The Teulings Youth Sports League, which currently supports more than 13 sports disciplines, continues to serve as a key platform for nurturing young talent across the country.

OYDC Zambia Programs Manager, Ms. Mwange Kampamba, applauded Nawila’s achievement and reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to developing future champions.

“It’s truly gratifying to see so many young athletes reaching this level. As OYDC Zambia, we are thankful to Mr. Teulings for his continued support of our youth sports programs. Today, we are seeing the results of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge, producing medalists. We also thank the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), the Judo Association of Zambia, and other federations for their collaborative efforts. We look forward to even more medals in this and future competitions.” she said.

With more action still to come at the Region 5 Youth Games, the success of Nawila stands as a proud moment to Zambia’s growing investment in youth sports development.
