OYDC Zambia Applauds Surgicorps International for Successful Vision Clinic and Basketball Outreach

OYDC Zambia Acting CEO, Benjamin Tembo, has commended Surgicorps International for successfully hosting its first-ever Vision Clinic in Zambia and for their continued support towards the development of the centre. He emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships and called for enhanced and expanded engagements in initiatives that nurture young people and promote community well-being.

The Vision Clinic screened a total of 410 patients, marking a significant milestone in improving access to eye care services. Of those attended to, 69 patients were fitted with distance correction glasses, while 194 received near vision correction lenses. Additionally, 350 pairs of sunglasses were distributed to support eye protection and promote better visual health. The medical outreach was led by Dr. Larry Butler and his dedicated team.

In addition to the healthcare initiative, Surgicorps conducted a four-day basketball clinic that attracted hundreds of young athletes. Participants were trained in fundamental basketball skills while also being instilled with values such as teamwork, discipline, and excellence. All participants received T-shirts and caps as part of the program.

The basketball clinic was led by renowned coach and basketball legend Agnus Berenato, a respected women’s basketball coach with over three decades of experience, known for transforming collegiate programs and achieving historic milestones in the sport.

The dual initiative in health and sport reflects the growing impact of international collaboration in empowering communities and shaping the future of young people in Zambia.
