OYDC & Teulings capable of producing world class Olympians – NSCZ

National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) Chairman Patrick Mutimushi says OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre through the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge is cable of producing world-class athletes who can reign supreme at major events like the Olympic Games.

In a speech read on his behalf by NSCZ Board Member Nakaonga Kakoma during the 11 edition of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge grand finale Mutimushi noted with happiness that OYDC has in the last eleven years conducted a well organized youth league which has yielded positive results.

He added that the Centre needs support because it is not only a pride of Zambia but Africa at large.And OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre Chief Executive Officer Dr Fredrick Chitangala said despite the Covid-19 pandemic athletes propelled their commitment and dedication towards the Teulings games.

He announced that in 2022 the OYDC will introduce new sports disciplines that will add up to the current programmes running at the centre and added that the Centre is thankful to the athletes for the efforts they had put up during the Teulings games.

Meanwhile NOCZ Board Member Victor Banda commended OYDC for a successful hosting of the grand finale stating that the Centre is thriving hard to make sure that youths refrain from illicit activities and focus on sport that can uplift their career in sport.

In attendance at the 2021 Teulings Youth Sports Challenge grand finale awards included; Netball Zambia president Martha Sichone, Zambia Hockey Association General Secretary Elvis Bwaya, Taekwondo Association of Zambia president Likando Nagonde, Zambia Judo Association General Secretary Mabvuto Ng’uni among others.

However, deserving athletes, teams, clubs, media and coaches were awarded with trophies, shields and medals.The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge has been running at the OYDC since 2011.

The youthful competition is sponsored by Coen Teulings Chairman of the Merifin Capital in Belgium. From the time the competition was introduced at the Centre a number of athletes have been selected from different sports disciplines to olaye for local clubs and national teams.
