OYDC Zambia Celebrates Zambia Under 17 and 20 Girls Handball National Teams’ Qualification for the IHF Continental Championships and Handball Africa Cup

OYDC Zambia is proud to celebrate the success of the Zambia Under-17 and Under-20 girls’ handball national teams, which recently secured gold at the Zone 6 games held in Zimbabwe. Many of the players are products of the Teulings Youth Sports League, a key development platform supported by OYDC Zambia.

OYDC Zambia Acting CEO Benjamin Tembo, expressed immense pride in the teams’ achievements. “We are proud of this accomplishment,” said Mr. Tembo. “On behalf of OYDC Zambia and the Board, I extend our heartfelt thanks. We will continue supporting you and take great pride in your success. We are committed to ensuring that you receive the necessary support to participate in the upcoming continental championships. This is exactly the kind of progress we aim for, please continue working hard. Thank you and well done.”
The victories have earned the teams qualification to two major international events: the IHF Continental Handball Championships scheduled for September 2025 in Algeria, and the IHF Africa Cup of Nations later this year.

Teulings Handball Coordinator, Mr. Wilfred Numbwa, also praised the girls’ performance and the developmental support they have received. “As a coordinator, I am very happy. I pray and hope that this support continues. These girls were selected from the Teulings Youth Sports League, which has played a vital role in refining their skills,” he stated.
One of the players, Joyce Mbewe Bwalya shared her enthusiasm after winning at the Zone 6 games. “I am very happy. I was picked from the Teulings League, and I’m grateful for the opportunity it gave me to be part of the national team,” she said.
The continued success of Zambia’s youth handball teams underscores the critical importance of grassroots development programs like the Teulings League in nurturing young talent and positioning Zambia as a competitive force on the international sports stage.
