OYDC Zambia Welcomes JICE Representative Ahead of Japan–Africa Youth Exchange Programme.

OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre today welcomed a representative from the Japanese International Cooperation Centre (JICE) during a preparatory visit ahead of the Japan–Africa Youth Exchange Programme, scheduled to take place in September 2026.

The JICE delegation was represented by Ms. Suzu Yokohama from the Youth Exchange Division, International Exchange Department, who was warmly received by Judo Association of Zambia General Secretary, Mabvuto Nguni, at the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre.

During her visit, Ms. Yokohama toured the Centre’s sports facilities, including the Judo Hall, where she gained insight into the Association’s training environment and the role OYDC Zambia continues to play in developing judo and other sporting disciplines across the country.

The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming visit by Japanese students, programme objectives, and activities that will promote meaningful cultural and educational exchange. The Japan–Africa Youth Exchange Programme seeks to deepen mutual understanding between young people from Japan and Africa through cultural exchange, shared learning, and collaboration. The initiative also aims to strengthen cooperation and build lasting partnerships for future co-creation between Japan and African countries.

As part of the programme, 18 Japanese students, drawn from a total delegation of 300 participants, will visit Zambia. The Judo Association of Zambia has been selected as one of the host institutions, with activities taking place at OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre. The students will have the opportunity to learn how judo, a sport that originated in Japan, has grown in Zambia and continues to contribute to sports development, youth empowerment, and community development.

The delegation is expected to arrive in Zambia on 20 September 2026 and depart on 30 September 2026, with the visit to the Judo Association of Zambia at OYDC Zambia scheduled for 28 September 2026.

During the preparatory meeting, both parties reviewed the programme itinerary, expected learning outcomes, and plans to ensure a rewarding experience for the visiting students.

The visit will feature interactions with athletes, coaches, and members of the local judo community, giving participants first-hand insight into how the sport has positively impacted communities in Zambia while strengthening cultural ties between Zambia and Japan.
