Team Zambia Arrives Home After Inspiring Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Campaign

The return of Team Zambia from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has brought renewed inspiration to the country’s sporting community following an impressive campaign in Scotland, where Zambia secured two bronze medals through boxers Catherine Mwape and Emmanuel Katema.

The delegation received a warm welcome at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport from officials representing the National Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association of Zambia (NOC/CGA Zambia), the National Sports Council of Zambia, Government, sports associations, and other stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the team’s achievements.

The success of Team Zambia also reflects the importance of investing in quality training environments and athlete preparation. Ahead of the Commonwealth Games, a number of Team Zambia athletes utilized OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre for training camps and final preparations. The Centre’s sporting facilities continue to provide athletes with an environment that supports high-performance training across various sporting disciplines, contributing to Zambia’s growing presence on the international stage.

Among the standout performers was Catherine Mwape, who made history as the first Zambian woman to win a Commonwealth Games boxing medal. Together with fellow bronze medallist Emmanuel Katema, the pair showcased determination, resilience, and the rewards of months of dedicated preparation.

Although only two medals were secured, Team Zambia produced several encouraging performances across athletics, boxing, judo, lawn bowls, and swimming, laying a solid foundation for future international competitions, including the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games in Malta.
