Teulings Champions crowned with trophies and medals

Over 300 young athletes who have been part of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge were on Saturday 27th October, 2018 crowned with trophies and medals during the 8th edition of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge Grand Finale.

The Grand finale was conducted at the Olympic Youth Development Centre and the Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Hon. Moses Mawere MP, was represented by Gibson Muyaule, Deputy Director of Sport at the Ministry. The minister in a speech read on his behalf by Muyaule, he applauded Coen Teulings Chairman of the Merifin Capital in Belgium for having supported the OYDC for the last eight years and by ensuring that the support came into fruition by producing athletes who represented Zambia at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

He congratulated all the athletes who received the medals and trophies and urged them to continue utilising the OYDC if they are to continue representing Zambia at competitive games both local and international.

Speaking earlier National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) president Alfred Foloko, disclosed that he was impressed with the number of athletes who have been part of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge saying the results show that the nation will continue to produce young talented athletes who will bring honor to Zambia when they are sent to participate in Olympic Games and other local competitions.

And Coen Teulings Representative Hans Bertels, congratulated the team which went to represent Zambia at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina for showing their sporting skills to the world. He singled out the men’s hockey team which has been part of the Teulings support for emerging fourth during the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

Meanwhile, OYDC Director Dr. Fredrick Chitangala, appealed to the corporate world to emulate Coen Teulings by considering to partner with the OYDC and see to it that Zambia continues to produce inspiring athletes who will mint medals.

Others who witnessed the event include; IOC Head for Sport for Hope Barbara Schweizer, NOCZ Secretary General Boniface Kambikambi, DEC officials, OYDC staff, members of the press and representatives of different sports associations.

The Teulings Youth Sport Challenge was established to cater for athletes aged between 10 and 18 from different parts of Zambia. It involved competition in four different sporting disciplines; Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Hockey and Tennis, and are sponsored by Mr. Coen Teulings Chairman of Merifin Capital in Belgium who has supported OYDC with over K8 million since 2011.
