Buffalo Bicycles joined the global community in commemorating World Bicycle Day at OYDC Zambia, bringing together key stakeholders to celebrate the role of bicycles in promoting sustainable mobility, improving livelihoods, and protecting the environment.
The event was officiated by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Gabriel Pollen, who emphasized the importance of bicycles in transforming communities through improved access to education, healthcare, and public service delivery, particularly in rural areas.
Dr. Pollen noted that bicycles provide an affordable and efficient means of transport, especially in growing cities such as Lusaka where traffic congestion continues to increase.

“Every sector can benefit from the use of bicycles. They are a practical solution for mobility challenges and contribute positively to people’s well-being,” he said.
He further reaffirmed the Government’s commitment, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, to improving infrastructure that supports cycling, including the development of cycling lanes along major highways and roads.
The event attracted representatives from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), World Vision, OYDC Zambia, Buffalo Bicycles, and other stakeholders committed to promoting sustainable transport solutions.
Speaking during the event, stakeholders highlighted that mobility is not a luxury but a necessity. Buffalo Bicycles continues to play a vital role in providing reliable transportation, particularly in rural communities where many people depend on bicycles for their daily activities.
The event also emphasized the environmental benefits of cycling, noting that bicycles produce zero emissions and contribute significantly to efforts aimed at combating climate change. Members of the public were encouraged to embrace cycling as a healthy, affordable, and environmentally friendly mode of transport.

The World Bicycle Day celebration served as a reminder of the bicycle’s power to transform lives, strengthen communities, and contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.
