HOCKEY COACH CHOMBA EYES CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS TO COMPETE IN TEULINGS

Hockey coach Floyd CHOMBA says he is looking forward to engaging athletes with special needs in his team so that they can start participating in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge.

CHOMBA who got elated following the donation of some hockey equipment to “Unified Hockey” by Africa on the Ball through Special Olympics Zambia disclosed that the donation comes at a time when he wants to nurture athletes with special needs who can later be integrated into the competitive Teulings Youth Sports Challenge at the OYDC Zambia.

He says the “Unified Hockey” had been on hold for some time because there was no equipment for athletes with special needs to use and thanks Special Olympics Zambia and Africa on the Ball for the donation.

The donation took place when other athletes were at the sports facility competing in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge on 1 October 2022.

And Special Olympics Zambia National Director Nancy Ntalasha who witnessed some of the Teulings games hosted at the centre disclosed that the donation of equipment by Africa on the Ball will put smiles on the faces of children living with disabilities stating that majority of them are rarely included in different sports activities.

Meanwhile, as athletes from different hockey teams were battling it out, the centre also hosted basketball and beach volleyball all under the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge. The athletes before the commencement of the games took part in the session of the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP).

With only two months remaining before the grand finale is hosted and to mark the end of the 2022 youthful sporting season at the centre players are putting in their best so that they can get rewarded with trophies and medals for their outstanding performances.
