OYDC ZAMBIA SET TO HOST WORLD AIDS DAY SPORTS TOURNAMENT

OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre will on Monday, 2nd December, 2019 commemorate this year’s World AIDS Day whose theme is “Communities make the difference”. The World AIDS Day is celebrated annually on 1st December. 

Four football and eight hockey teams will be competing as part of the commemoration from 09:00 to 12:00 hours and top winners will be presented with jerseys and equipment.

OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Fredrick Chitangala, has announced that the Centre has invited officials from the US Embassy in Zambia under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to to be part of the commemoration. OYDC Zambia recently launched the HIV Prevention through Sport project which is supported by PEPFAR to use sport as a tool to disseminate awareness messages on HIV.

Dr. Chitangala says, the HIV Prevention through Sport Project will run for 12 months and will actively involve activities in communities. The activities  undertaken include Community Sports Outreach Programme, Champions Talk and One on One Sensitization  focusses on HIV Testing and Counseling, Condom   education, ARVs, PMTC and VMMC.

OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre targets to reach over 100, 000 youths and adolescents on HIV Prevention as they proceed into adulthood.
