Sasha Kapumpa Wins Zambia’s Only Medal at ANOCA School Games – Teulings Youth League Continues to Shine

Lusaka, 8 August 2025
Zambia returned home from the inaugural ANOCA School Games in Algeria with a single medal, proudly secured by Sasha Kapumpa, a rising judoka and product of the Teulings Youth Sports League hosted at OYDC Zambia.
The bronze medal, won in judo, was the only medal for Zambia at the continental multi-sport event, which attracted 52 African nations and targeted athletes aged 14 to 18. Sasha’s outstanding performance highlighted the potential within grassroots development programs such as the Teulings League, which continues to produce athletes capable of excelling at international level.
Mwange Kampamba, OYDC Zambia’s Programmes Manager, praised Sasha’s achievement, emphasizing the significance of the medal not just for the athlete, but for the broader mission of youth sport development in the country.

“Producing a medal is very exciting for OYDC and the Teulings. On behalf of OYDC Zambia and the Teulings Foundation, we are very proud of Sasha, and we will continue to support our athletes to win even more medals. We hope to see more athletes participating in more competitions,” Kampamba said.
Sasha, speaking after returning home, expressed her joy and determination to go even further in her sporting journey.
“I’m really happy for winning this medal, but this is not what I expected. I will work hard so that I achieve a gold medal next time. I am very happy with the Teulings because it has provided me with an opportunity to be part of this team,” she said.
Mwape Zulu, the Chef de Mission for Team Zambia and a Board Member of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), described the games as a valuable experience for the young athletes. She commended the team for their passion and commitment, noting that although Zambia only sent eight athletes in two sports codes – judo and tennis – the exposure they received was vital for future competitions.
“The athletes were passionate and determined to represent the country well. This experience will serve them in future competitions, and we hope to collaborate with more stakeholders to send a larger delegation for the next edition in Nigeria,” Zulu said.
Judo Coach William Kalunga noted that the team’s exposure to international competition will help shape future training and performance.
“Now that our judokas have seen what competition at this level looks like, we will be able to better strategize and prepare for future events,” he said.
Tennis Coach Trust Chongo also commended his players for their dedication and commitment throughout the games, despite not securing a medal.
Team Zambia arrived back in Lusaka aboard Ethiopian Airlines on Thursday, 7 August, and were welcomed by representatives from NOCZ, Judo, Tennis, and OYDC Zambia.

OYDC Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting young athletes and ensuring that more are exposed to opportunities at international level through partnerships such as the Teulings Youth Sports League, which continues to yield results and transform lives through sport.
