Let us protect ourselves, Catherine Phiri tells athletes

Zambian superstar boxer Catherine Phiri, who is former World Boxing Council Champion on 29 February, 2020 called on young athletes to be wary and protect themselves from vices that will in future make them contract HIV.

Phiri, said it is through commitment, dedication and discipline that she remains a boxer stating that if she was not careful her sports career would have ended.

She addressed athletes at OYDC Zambia, during the “Champions Talk” supported by PEPFAR and disclosed that she is always protecting herself by ensuring that she excels more with her career. She further, advised athletes to avoid favors from coaches that could lead them to be in a compromising situation but instead concentrate more on training and competitions.

The Champions Talk supported by PEPFAR is usually organized by OYDC Zambia and different role models are usually invited to motivate young aspiring athletes who have the zeal to mint medals in future.

The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) small grants program on HIV prevention supported by the US Government through the US Embassy in Zambia, will help OYDC Zambia projects to mitigate the spread of HIV.
