Athletes belonging to clubs owned by the OYDC Zambia have continued to reign supreme by showcasing and winning the youthful competitions they participate in.

With over nineteen sports disciplines at the facility, athletes from the OYDC Taekwondo club on Saturday 19 August 2023 won the group ‘Poomsae’ showcase against Black Angels in the U12 age category.

Poomsae comprises sets of pre-arranged defence and attacking movements that gradually become more complex as you progress your development in Taekwondo.

The OYDC team comprised of Haggai Muyembe, Henry Tembo and Chadwi Mudenda while Black Angels had the likes of Mapalo Mulenga, Lameck Lishita and Peter Machona. Other clubs which were present to battle it out include OlmpAfrica and Lusaka Leopards.

The competition was in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge organised by OYDC Zambia and supported by Coen Teulings Chairman of Merifin Capital in Belgium who has been sponsoring these youthful games at the Centre since 2011.

Teulings taekwondo coordinator Patrson Ngoma says ‘’these young boys and girls are talented.

People should watch out for them in the coming few years we should be able to identify which young persons from taekwondo can represent us at international youth games.

Their passion and dedication for this sport is out of this world. We thank OYDC management and Coen Teulings for this developmental project which continues to help associations such as Taekwondo Federation Zambia to identify these athletes to join senior and junior national teams’’.

Meanwhile, more athlete in other sports disciplines were busy with their competition in basketball, hockey, judo and beach volleyball at the centre.

OYDC Zambia programmes officer Likemore Mahunje disclosed that over 500 young athletes had thronged the facility to represent their teams and clubs in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge.

He added that as the year will be nearing the end teams will be able to identify and select players who will compete for overall supremacy at the grand finale of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge where deserving ones will be awarded with trophies and beautiful medals.
