OYDC RUGBY TEAM WON TEULINGS LEAGUE IN THREE AGE CATEGORIES

OYDC Zambia rugby team has emerged champions of the Teulings league for 2022 and awaits to be rewarded with trophies and medals on the 26 November.

The team played its final games in the girls’ and boys’ U14, and U17 and won all the games against its competitors.

In the U14 boys final OYDC thrashed Matero 40-18, and in the U17 girls final OYDC beat Chazanga 30-15 while in the U17 girls final OYDC won Walks 24-12.

With this record win, the team will now prepare to receive awards on 26 November when other sports disciplines will be getting rewarded for their outstanding performances during the 2022 Teulings Youth Sports Challenge awards ceremony.

The games were intense as young athletes braved the drizzling weather to battle it out on the playing field.

Teulings Rugby coordinator Clement Muwele says the league for the year was extraordinary adding that he remains indebted to OYDC for its continued support of the development of sport in the country not only at the grassroots level.

The OYDC rugby team has seen several players being contributed to play in the national teams and local clubs of which notable ones have gone as far as competing at the Commonwealth games.

‘’We thank OYDC management for the sponsorship, from the word go my team has been playing under instructions and looking forward to next year. Some of these top players you see in the national teams for both men and women are a product of OYDC. This facility has helped many to a point that they have participated in major competitions like the commonwealth games’’ he said.

Meanwhile, taekwondo athletes were competing on 12 November as they continue to see which athlete deserve to be crowned with medals and trophies.

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge remains the biggest U20 youthful development competition in Zambia which is supported by Coen Teulings Chairman of Merifin Capital in Belgium. The competition has been running since 2011 and has seen several sports federations in the country benefit by identifying talented young persons who later join national teams.

This year’s Teulings awards presentation ceremony is expected to be graced by the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Hon. Elvis Nkandu MP will also have representatives from the Teulings Foundation, International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), local sports federations, community teams and schools.

Among those expected to be rewarded include; coaches, umpires, athletes, teams, and the media among others.
