The championship, organised by the Judo Association of Zambia (JAZ) in collaboration with the Southern African Judo Confederation (SAJC), will bring together cadet and senior athletes from across Southern Africa for a high-level regional competition.
The two-day event will feature cadet competitions on 4th April, followed by senior competitions on 5th April, all to be held at the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre. The tournament will provide a valuable platform for athletes to showcase their talent and gain competitive experience.

OYDC Zambia Acting Chief Executive Officer, Benjamin Tembo, expressed enthusiasm about the Centre hosting the championship, stating that preparations are on track to ensure a successful event.
“We are ready to host the Southern African Judo Championships and look forward to welcoming athletes and officials from across the region. This event reflects our continued commitment to providing quality facilities and supporting the growth of sport,” said Tembo.
The championship will also serve as a qualifier for cadet athletes aiming to participate in the Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games, while senior athletes will benefit from valuable international exposure.

Ahead of the championship, Zambia will also host the Southern African Judo Confederation Elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 3rd April 2026 at the Golden Peacock Hotel.
The event is expected to strengthen regional cooperation, promote friendship among participating nations, and contribute to the continued development of judo in Southern Africa.
