TEN BOXERS IN CAMP AT OYDC ZAMBIA AHEAD OF COMPETITION IN MOROCCO

TEN National team boxers entered camp at OYDC Zambia on 26 January 2023 to prepare for the 6th Edition of the Mohammed VI International Trophy to be hosted by Morocco from 3 to 12 February.

The competition dubbed “Golden Belt Series” will attract countries from across the globe and Zambia will be represented by six (6) male and four (4) female boxers.

The boxers are Nene Maonga, Patrick Chiyemba, Mwengo Mwale, Andrew Chilata, Emmanuel Katema, Stephen Zimba, Margret Tembo, Hildah Ngandwe, Mary Muhango and Felistus Nkandu.

The boxers together with national team coach Wisdom Mudenda and his assistant Ariel Banda are expected to leave Zambia for Morocco on 30 January 2023.

Coach Mudenda says he will use the competition to expose his boxers to top-notch pugilists from other countries. 

He says training is progressing well adding that all boxers are in good shape and looking forward to travelling to Morocco to face their opponents.

Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) president Dan Chiteule and the federation general secretary Westie Chewe visited the boxers in camp to wish them well as they prepare for the competition.

Zambia never disappoints when it comes to boxing, among these boxers to represent the country in Morocco are those who recently participated at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games.

In 2022, boxing amassed over 30 medals at various competitions.
