THREE BOXERS TO REPRESENT ZAMBIA AT IBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

THREE BOXERS TO REPRESENT ZAMBIA AT IBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Three Zambian boxers Patrick Chinyemba, Stephen Zimba and Andrew Chilata are scheduled to take part in the 2023 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Uzbekistan.

The trio who participated at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games where Patrick Chinyemba minted bronze and Stephen Zimba minted silver while Andrew Chilata went to bag gold at the African Elite Boxing Championship in Mozambique will leave Zambia for Uzbekistan Friday Night.

The Championships will run from 30 April to 14 May 2023.

Zambia Boxing Federation Acting Deputy General Secretary Cpt Bonwell Banda says the boxing fraternity and sports at large expect the trio to come back home with medals looking at previous competitions they have participated in.

And National Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association of Zambia (NOC/CGA Zambia) president Alfred Foloko has wished the boxers the best of luck as they leave for the Championships.

Meanwhile, NOC/CGA Zambia Secretary-General Boniface Kambikambi says the Championships will be used as qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He disclosed this when boxers and coaches were being presented with a brand-new sports travel kit.

And the three boxers have declared themselves ready for the Championships stating that medals will be brought back home.
