ZAMBIA ATHLETICS PRESIDENT MPONDELA APPLAUDS ATHLETE’S PERFORMANCE AT AFRICAN GAMES

Zambia Athletics (ZA) president Elias Mpondela has paid gratitude to athletes who have showcased their prowess at the 2023 African Games in Accra Ghana.

Speaking to the OYDC Zambia media team Mpondela said the target has always been to mint gold at these games stating that all athletes were prepared to sprint for glory and win more medals for Zambia.

He says the support the athletes are receiving is amazing which has seen 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games 400m gold medalist Muzala Samukonga mint a silver medal in the 400m final race at the African Games.

Meanwhile, Mpondela is hopeful for a medal when the team takes it to the track and field later in the evening to compete in the men’s 4x400m relay final.

Zambia’s athletics team currently has a silver medal in the men’s 400m race won through Muzala Samukonga.

And Mpondela says the athlete [Samukonga] should be applauded for his amazing performance knowing that he was just recovering from an injury.

He says the association is paying gratitude to the Government through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) and the OYDC Zambia for the continued support towards these athletes.
