ZBF DONATES TO OYDC ZAMBIA, AS CEO GETS HONOURED WITH MEDAL

OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Fredrick Chitangala, has appealed to sports federations and the corporate in the country to help the Centre revamp its programmes as it reintroduces some of the youth league games in April.

Speaking after being honoured with a medal and receiving a donation of ten (10) basketballs and two (2) baskets from Zambia Basketball Federation (ZBF) President Shawki Fawazi on 1st March, 2020 during the tie “Breaker League” final Game between Matero Magic and Munali Suns in Lusaka, Dr. Chitangala announced that five sports disciplines namely; rugby, boxing, judo, basketball and the fifth one which is yet to be determined between soccer and handball will be added to a youth league hence the need for support from sports associations and the corporate so that the Centre continues to provide facilities to athletes, coaches and sports administrators and see to it that more young talented athletes are trained and qualified to competitive games such as the Olympic Games.

The Tie “Breaker League” was graced by His Worship the Mayor of Lusaka, Miles Sampa, who expressed happiness with ways in which sport is being used to bring about social change and development in the city.  Also present was National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Secretary General, Boniface Kambikambi.

Dr. Chitangala added that Zambia Basketball Federation (ZBF) will immediately second a coach to work at the sports complex once the league commences in April.

The youth leagues, such as the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge at OYDC Zambia give a lot of youths the opportunity to participate in well organised and competitive sport. In the last two years, over 2500 athletes have participated in swimming, hockey, beach volleyball, taekwondo and netball which are part of the Teulings League with top deserving athletes having successfully been selected to play for national teams respectively.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chitangala, has paid gratitude to Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for donating 22 judo uniforms and seconding of a Japanese Judo Coach to the Centre. And Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) indicated that a local coach is on standby to be deployed to the OYDC judo Club as the association finalizes the establishment of a Secretariat at the Centre. Association General Secretary Mabvuto N’guni, pledged support to OYDC to ensure programmes are revamped.
