We join the rest of the Olympic movement in mourning this gallant man. We shall not only remember him for this facility but also the support he rendered through the support of the IOC presidents Athletics Challenge from 2012 to 2014”.

Dr Rogge in 2010 launched the OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre formerly known as the Olympic Youth Development Centre together with the then President of the Republic of Zambia HE Rupiah B. Banda.

His last visit at the OYDC was when he came with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in 2012. The Centre honored Dr Rogge by naming one of the rooms at the facility after his name.

His great contribution to the development of sport not only in Zambia but the globe at large will be greatly missed.
