OYDC ZAMBIA LAUNCHES 2023 TO 2028 STRATEGIC PLAN

The OYDC Zambia Friday 14th April 2023 launched its 2023 to 2028 Strategic Plan whose main focus is investing in facilities to support high-performance sports.

Launching the strategic plan, OYDC Zambia Board of Trustees Chairperson Simangolwa Shakalima expressed hope that the new strategic plan, spanning from 2023 to 2028, and aimed to invest in top-notch facilities to support high-performance sports will help many young talented athletes fulfil their sporting dreams.

He disclosed that the Board of Trustees of the OYDC Zambia wants the centre to become a world-class sports facility which can be competing with other top sports facilities across the globe.

‘’As we launch this strategic plan, we want this centre to be able to rise to the standards that it can be compared to across the globe. This is the vision that we have as the board as well as the management of the OYDC Zambia. Of late we have attracted keen interest from the continent the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and other countries that this facility should become a centre of excellence and continue nurturing and producing sports heroes not only at the grassroots level but also at high performance by training and conducting various competitions attracting magnitudes of spectators’’ he said.

Shakalima further stated that the OYDC Zambia so far has received commitments to revamp some facilities from local and international organisations among them ANOCA which is a continental body that looks at various national Olympic Committees in Africa.

He added that OYDC Zambia through its management remains resolute to continue to contribute to the development of sport in the country and called on other organisations to consider partnering with the facility in the running of sports programmes and maintenance of facilities.

He however disclosed that young athletes have in the past years rocked the world stage, beating records, and winning medals for mother Zambia as they have always been a source of pride for Zambia and a beacon of hope for the next generation of athletes yet to come.

Meanwhile, during the same launch of the strategic plan, OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer Dr Fredrick Chitangala announced the launch of the 2023 OYDC/Teulings sports season at the centre.

He said the games involving talented young athletes in various sports disciplines and supported by Coen Teulings, Chairman of Merifn Capital in Belgium will be hosted like any other weekend at the facility adding that the sponsor will be visiting Zambia in May 2023.

Several sports associations attended the event and received copies of the strategic plan.
