“WE CONTINUE BENEFITING FROM THE TEULINGS YOUTH SPORTS CHALLENGE” – BANDA

Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) president Victor Banda has expressed joy that his association continues to benefit from the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge organised by OYDC Zambia every weekend.

Banda says the OYDC Zambia through the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge supported by Coen Teulings Chairman of Merifin Capital in Belgium is helping many associations in the country to identify talented players at the grassroots level who in the future turn into elite athletes.

He says his association was amused to note that 120 U14 & U18 players were part of the games that were hosted representing different clubs.

He adds that the country should look out for future handball players being moulded from the OYDC Zambia stating that management at the facility is doing everything within their capacity to help sports associations tap talent and pick athletes to join local clubs and national teams.

Banda who witnessed the games at the Centre on Saturday 9 March implored would-be partners to emulate what Coen Teulings has been doing to the OYDC Zambia since 2011.

He was quick to point out a few athletes currently playing in local clubs and have been beneficiaries of this youthful league.

Meanwhile, Banda says the OYDC Zambia being a facility with different sports codes should be used by many to develop sports careers and see that the nation continues to record success stories not only locally but on an international level.

And away from handball OYDC Zambia had hosted teqball games.

OYDC Zambia programmes officer Likemore Mahunje says the turnout was good despite the rains which might have hindered other teams from coming to take part.

He thanked teams for their commitment and dedication to the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge for the year 2024 which he says is taking center stage.

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge remains the most inspiring youthful competition in Zambia engaging talented young people below the age of 20 years competing in various sports codes.

Since its launch in 2011, the competition has benefited over 10,000 Zambian athletes of which many graduated to national teams and clubs.

At the end of the year, a grand finale is hosted where top deserving teams, clubs, athletes, coaches, umpires and administrators are rewarded with trophies and medals.
