ZAMBIA BAGS EIGHT MEDALS AT THE JUST-ENDED CAA U18/U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Zambia has recorded eight medals at the just-ended Confederation of African Athletics CAA U18/U20 Championships which was held at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Team Zambia in the U20 minted four (4) silver and three (3) bronze while in the U18 one (1) bronze was recorded which brings the total number of medals to eight.

The compilation of this is based on the “Meet Statistics” seen.

South Africa carried the day with more medals followed by Nigeria then Kenya.

The closing ceremony last night was graced by Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo who paid gratitude to CAA for picking Zambia to host such a magnifying and prestigious Championships.

Despite Zambia not minting a gold medal during the Championships, a cheerful crowd in the stadium showed the team massive support.

Over 40 Countries took part among them Algeria, Ethiopia, Botswana, Uganda, Zimbabwe, The Gambia, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Ghana just to mention a few.

Zambia Athletics (ZA) president Elias Mpondela who is also Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairperson said the support given by all stakeholders to ensure that the nation successfully hosted the Championship is inspiring adding that 45 African nations took part.

Meanwhile, Confederation of African Athletics president Hamad Kalkaba Malboum congratulated every athlete who took part and said each one is a winner for having participated in such a competitive Championships.
