‘BRING US MEDALS’ ATHLETES TOLD

Team Zambia is looking at showcasing its sporting skills as it travels to Lilongwe Malawi for the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Games starting on 2-11 December.

The team has been challenged by the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Hon. Elvis Nkandu MP to mint medals.

Speaking during the send-off ceremony held at the OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre on 26 November 2022 Hon. Nkandu in a speech read by permanent secretary Kangwa Chileshe said he was happy to see that the nation was for the first time sending the biggest team to the much-anticipated games in the region.

He said the government will be looking forward to seeing athletes mint medals in the sports codes being represented stating that honour has to be brought back home in style.

Team Zambia will be represented by 12 sports codes at the games which include; athletics, athletics VI, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Netball, Swimming, Taekwondo, Judo, Volleyball, Tennis and E-sports.

The U20 Youth Games dubbed Region 5 Youth Games Lilongwe 2022 will be hosted under the theme ‘Igniting the African Dream’.
Members of the Region 5 comprise Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Eswatini formerly called Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
