“GO AND QUALIFY FOR THE PARIS 2024” NOCZ URGES HOCKEY TEAMS

The men’s and women’s hockey national teams have been urged to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic games as they travel to South Africa for the qualifiers games.

National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Treasurer Victor Banda urged the two teams to put in their level best during the qualifiers games and become the first team sport to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic games.

He spoke to the teams when the Zambia Hockey Association (ZHA) unveiled the sports kit which will be used during the games supported by Cavendish University and OYDC Zambia. Banda in his capacity further donated a K1000 to the teams and wished them good luck and safe travels.

OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer Dr Fredrick Chitangala says the organisation remains committed to showing support to teams such as hockey which remain positive and determined to compete and qualify for prestigious games. Dr Chitangala who has also donated USD 100 to the teams says the Centre is looking forward to seeing the teams record good results and subsequently qualify for the Paris 2024.

Meanwhile, Zambia Hockey Association Acting General Secretary Elvis Bwalya has thanked Cavendish University and OYDC Zambia for the sports kit adding that this will motivate athletes to win while in South Africa.

The men’s and women’s teams will be leaving for Pretoria on 25 October 2023 and the games will be held from 29th October to 5th November 2023.

Zambia is expected to take on countries like Egypt, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia and the hosts South Africa.

The top teams in each gender category will earn a direct spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The men’s team will be coached by Elvis Bwalya while the women’s team will be coached by Floyd Chomba.
